Productivity Will Lead You To a Happier Life
Productivity is the key to happiness. Whether it be going to work, or having fun with a hobby, or just learning something in conversation with your mailman. Doing something each and every day that you consider productive in your respective life will make you feel fulfilled, and thus, happy.
Happiness leading to productivity versus productivity leading to happiness
Companies have long realized the connection between happiness and productivity. Making employees satisfied makes them 12% more productive, according to a study done by the University of Warwick. It is common sense that a worker with less stress, fewer worries, and an overall good state of mind will do better and more work.
However, the inverse of this is just as powerful and is not talked about nearly as much. Besides already having a sense of contentment which leads to a good work ethic, what about using your daily tasks and work to lead to a better sense of being?
What exactly is productivity?
Productivity is not working like a machine and never taking a break for yourself. It is using each day and every minute to do the best you can to lead to fulfillment and long lasting habits of working smart, instead of just hard. Being productive will allow you to work on what moves you forward, what feeds your passion, and what makes your life feel worth it.
Find your passion and run with it!
As Dale Carnegie said, “...throw yourself into some work you believe in with all your heart, live for it, die for it, and you will find the happiness that you had thought could never be yours.” This is the cornerstone of a truly happy life. It is so crucial to dedicate your life so entirely to what you love. Finding your passion and running with it will naturally lead to this productivity that can be so hard to grasp when you are not doing what you are driven to do.
Always aiming to achieve something is what productivity is. Accomplishment is not getting as many things done as you can. It is doing small things that lead to larger things that lead to feeling fulfilled. Long-term fulfillment is what will guide you towards eternal happiness, and true happiness, not just small bursts of expended energy that will only temporarily enlighten you. It is much like a good night’s sleep versus a double espresso shot latte. A good night’s sleep will energize and fulfill you for the whole day, like achieving your passions will make you happy long term. Alternatively, the latte will only give you a couple of good hours, as does just knocking off any random task from your to-do list.
How can you be productive?
Giving yourself credit for what your life already is and what you need to do on a daily basis is a great first step. Realizing that your interests, your responsibilities, and your lifestyle are valuable are all productive. Realizing that even things like getting the mail, waking up every morning and brushing your teeth, and getting to work on time are all productive! However, you need to continue these tasks like a snowball effect to reach bigger and better things. Wake up each morning thankful for what you have, and get right back on your journey to finding what you love that you can use to make your life happier and more fulfilled.
